Two quick first-half goals from Luke Russe and Brad Ash were enough to take all three points at the Ray Mac in the Vanarama National League South.

Salisbury fought back in the second half, but the home side could only score once through Lewis Brown.

It was the away team who came out of the blocks fastest and had two early chances – the first from Ewan Clark being saved by Rhys Byrne.

Then Brad Ash found himself with an opportunity to shoot, but his effort curled just wide from the end of the box.

Salisbury’s first chance of the game fell to Aiden Elliott-Wheeler, but his low effort hit the side netting after a touch from Harvey Wiles-Richards on 26 minutes.

Then came two goals in quick succession for the visitors. First Luke Russe did well to finish after being put through on goal in the 28th minute.

Then it was Brad Ash, who tucked away a rebound after Byrne had saved the initial effort from the edge of the box.

Salisbury were stunned and struggling to put together anything in the attacking third and trailed by two goals to nil at the break.

Brian Dutton made his first change at the start of the second half, with Jaden Perez replacing Karlos Gregory.

Neither side created a clear-cut chance in the opening stages of the second period – until a scrappy moment of play in the 60th minute.

Bath failed to clear their lines, and Lewis Brown latched on to the loose ball, cut inside the defender, and smashed the ball past Harvey Wiles-Richards and into the back of the net.

Callum Watts came close in the 71st minute when all ball from his own throw-in dropped to him on the edge of the box, but his effort curled just over.

It was Bath’s turn to come close – Byrne did well to block at the feet of Clark in the 76th minute as a low ball was whipped into the box. He then saved low to his left when Scott Wilson riffled a shot in just a minute later.

Salisbury broke forward in the 77th minute as the game went end to end. Josh Hedges won the ball before sliding Aiden Elliott-Wheeler in on the left side of the box. A great sliding tackle from Jack Batten blocked his low effort.

Salisbury continued to push forward, with Noah Coppin hitting a volley on the turn that came back off the bar. Aiden Elliott-Wheeler then picked up the ball as it came back out, first taking the ball out of the box. He turned and tried to skip between two players, going over a leg that was hung out. The referee called it a dive and booked Elliott-Wheeler rather than pointing to the spot.

With the game in stoppage time, Salisbury pressed and created a few half chances, but were unable to trouble Wiles-Richards and Bath were able to see the game out.
