Our Vanarama National League South campaign continues this Saturday as we welcome St Albans City to the Ray Mac.
The first meeting between the two sides produced an enthralling game of two halves, as Brian Dutton’s side were just able to hang on to a win after leading by four goals to nil as the game entered the 60th minute.
Goals from Josh Hedges, Aiden Elliott-Wheeler, Josh Sommerton and Noah Coppin had given Salisbury a commanding lead at Clarence Park. However, St Albans fought back with M Evans, K Charles and S Jeffers, leaving the travelling supporters with frazzled nerves when the final whistle was blown.
Since then, The Saints have changed their management team, with Ian Culverhouse replacing David Noble. Culverhouse, the former Spurs, Norwich and Swindon Town defender, has been tasked with saving the club from relegation. The side has been in the drop zone for the majority of the season but has been improving of late.
St Albans have averaged a point a game over the last six matches and come into the game with draws against Weston-super-Mare and Torquay United in their last two games.
The Saints led at halftime thanks to a 6th-minute opener from Harrison Smith. The home side had chances to extend their lead, but table toppers Torquay.
The Gulls were level within six minutes into the second half as Jordan Young slotted home from the spot. St Albans, though, battled well and held on for a well-earned point.
Meanwhile, Salisbury have been working hard to move away from the relegation places and are currently on a five-game unbeaten run and have kept four clean sheets in the last four league games.
On Tuesday, Salisbury were unable to break down a resolute 10-man Farnborough side at the Ray Mac. The visitors played the majority of the game a man short, but Salisbury were failed to unlock their rearguard.
Brian Dutton has praised his side, which is down to the “bare bones”, with several players missing through injury. However, some players are nearing fitness to boost the club’s push for survival in their first season at Step 2 of non-league football.
